The Restorers Hattie Beverly Youth Development Program includes academic tutoring and training in leadership development, and is open to students K–12. The program is dedicated to Hattie Beverly, Grand Rapids’ first African/American teacher.
Sometimes students need a little extra help and attention when it comes to their schoolwork. Tutoring is open to student K–12, free-of-charge. Sessions are offered twice weekly for up to two hours per student, and is provided by community volunteers, church members, and area college students.
Tutoring begins on Tuesday, September 26, and takes place each Tuesday and Thursday during the academic year.
Created in memory of Andy Schrier, the fund provides high school youth from our community with scholarship support to further their education after high school. Students may apply for $1,000 per semester.
Our winter robotics program is designed to help interested students from 1st to 9th grade discover the many possibilities in the world of engineering. The program will last ten weeks, and will be held Mondays from 4:30 to 6.
During the program, students will use LEGO® Education sets. Grades 1-5 will use LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 Core Set, and grades 6-9 will use the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 Core Set.
For the first few weeks, our instructors will lead the students through lessons to develop programming skills as well as good building practices. The later weeks will consist of engineering projects designed to get the students thinking about creative solutions to difficult tasks using the skills they have learned, as well as develop their own unique skill set. This volunteer-run program is free-of-charge to qualifying students.
